House of Heroes Connecticut Steps in to Help U.S. Coast Guard Veteran Rebuild Her Life

A team of volunteers from House of Heroes Connecticut (HOHCT) – including 13 students from

Quinnipiac University – will descend upon the Meriden home of U.S. Coast Guard veteran

(1983-1989) Dina Fischer to provide a variety of home repairs. Dina, a Staten Island native

raised in Puerto Rico, served six years with the Coast Guard as a petty officer third class working

in information technology. Dina is a survivor of domestic violence working to rebuild her life,

including major repairs to her home, and hopes her story will inspire others facing life

challenges to get the help they need to move on. Repairs will include the building of a new deck

and major property clean-up. House of Heroes Connecticut provides no-cost home repairs to

military and public safety veterans (and their spouses) who are disabled, living on a fixed

income, or facing other physical/financial challenges. This Saturday’s project is the

organization’s 113th overall since the chapter’s founding in 2012.
